Domestic Violence Has Become An Election Issue

Weeks after Rosie Batty was made Australian of the Year, domestic violence has become a NSW election issue

Just weeks after Rosie Batty was awarded Australian of Year (after her son was killed by her partner), domestic violence has apparently shot to the top of politicians’ priority lists.

In NSW, Labor leader Luke Foley is pledging to restore funding for women’s refuges after they were cut by the current government, according to the Sydney Morning Herald.

Just weeks ahead of the state election, Labor is also promising to boost funding for the victims compensation scheme (used by victims of domestic violence and sexual assault).

Meanwhile, Premier Mike Baird is pledging to create the new position of Minister for The Prevention of Domestic Violence and also launch a register for men who are domestic violence offenders if he is reelected.
