Selfies Have Killed More People Than Sharks This Year

According to a new study by Mashable, there have been more deaths this year due to selfies than there have been from shark attacks.

Say what now?

The toll for selfie-related deaths in 2015 now stands at 12 people, whereas deaths related to shark attacks totals eight.

The most recent selfie-related fatality was in India where, according to the BBC, 66-year-old tourist Hideto Ueda died after attempting to take a photo of himself during his vacation to the Taj Mahal.

Most of the tragedies were caused by people falling while trying to snap of pic of themselves, followed by being hit or injured by trains.

The saddest part being that almost all of these deaths could have been avoided.

Due to the increasing number of people risking their lives in the name of an epic selfie, a number of landmarks and major tourist destinations including theme parks, zoos and even museums are reportedly being forced to become 'selfie-free zones'.
