The Facebook 'Dislike' Button Is Finally Coming

After years of demand, Mark Zuckerberg has finally caved and announced the creation of a 'dislike' button on Facebook.

The CEO announced the news today at a Q&A session in Sunnyvale, saying he was aware people had been asking about it for years.

"Today is a special day because today is the day I can say we're working on it and shipping it," Zuckerberg said, conceding that the current 'like' button could be misconstrued, and wasn't suitable for all occasions.

"If you share something that's sad like a refugee crisis that touches you, or a family member passes away, it may not be comfortable to like that post," Zuckerbeg said. "I do think it's important to give people more options than liking it."

But Zuckerberg was also careful to state that the 'dislike' button would not be used to weight posts.

"That isn't what we're here to build in the world," Zuckerberg said. "We don't want to turn Facebook into a forum where people are voting up or down on people's posts.

"What (people) really want is the ability to express empathy. Not every moment is a good moment."
Before the feature is rolled out, you may want to consider your current posts - according to new data, those that boast about diet and exercise or share every meal are the most likely to be recipients of the dislike button. You've been warned.
