Beauty Pageant Queen Kickstarts 'No Makeup Selfies' Trend
A teenage pageant beauty queen has kick-started a viral hashtag after she was the victim of cyber bullying.
Isabella Gaines found the below photo comparison of herself with and without makeup on Twitter:
In response, Gaines posted a series of makeup-free selfies alongside the hashtag #NoMakeupSelfies.
"Tonight I received a Twitter notification that directed me to a tweet I found to be offensive and degrading," Gaines wrote underneath. "I used to be very insecure about how I looked without makeup, but I am comfortable in my own skin.
"In order to remain kind I follow what I perceive to be the Golden Rule which is 'do unto others as you would have them do unto you.' Rude or ugly comments hurt and destroy self-esteem. Beauty comes from within."
Since Gaines posted the message, a number of other beauty contestants, including Miss America herself, have posted makeup free selfies with the hashtag #NoMakeupSelfie.
"I am LOVING this movement. #nomakeupselfie #iwokeuplikethis #Flawless WE LOVE YOU @bellagainess," wrote fellow beauty pageant queen Lyndsey Stephens.
"@bellagainess you are beautiful both ways and I feel beautiful both ways too. Keep rocking the #nomakeupselfie," added Kenzie Hansley.
Amen.
