Is Bruce Jenner really transitioning to become a woman? In only have days we will find out the answer. On Saturday (Australian time) his much-hyped interview with news veteran Diane Sawyer will hit screens in the US. In a newly released promo for the two-hour TV special, the gold medal-winning Olympian, and patriarch of the Kardashian clan, can be heard saying: “My whole life has been getting me ready for this.”

For months there has been intense speculation that the former reality star has been undergoing medical treatment to change genders, with Jenner snapped by the paparazzi sporting painted fingernails and tabloid reports he had undergone surgery to create breasts.

According to People, the 65-year-old has decided to speak out now because he wants his situation to “have the most positive impact on society's perception of the transgender community,” a source told the magazine.

"Bruce's primary goal is to bring awareness to this issue in order to help others in the transgender community."

In February this year, Jenner’s mother Esther, 88, seemingly confirmed that her son was transitioning genders, by saying: "He said, 'I want to be honest about my identity, and I know this is coming out in the press,' " says Esther, who lives in Lewiston, Idaho. "I said I was proud of him and that I'll always love him. I never thought I could be more proud of Bruce when he reached his goal in 1976 [at the Olympics], but I'm more proud of him now. It takes a lot of courage to do what he's doing.”
