Julie Taylor was 19 weeks pregnant when she and 16 other people were held hostage at gunpoint in the Lindt Café in December last year.

This week, she has given birth to a baby daughter, and has named her Emily Katrina, in commemoration of her best friend and colleague Katrina Dawson, one of the two people who lost their life in the tragedy, The Sydney Morning Herald reports.

Taylor and Dawson worked together at Eight Selborne Chambers in the city, and were together at the Lindt Café on the morning of December 15 when they were taken hostage by Man Haron Monis.

Speaking shortly after the siege, Taylor remembered the woman who played such a big role in her life.

“She was my closest friend, a role model and a confidant. Her bravery and strength was, and continues to be, a comfort and inspiration for me. She invested every moment of her life in her friends and family and will be greatly missed by everyone who has known her.”

“Katrina Dawson was the most wonderful person I have ever met.”
