Selfie Sticks Banned From Music Festivals

If you've ever been whacked in the head with a selfie stick while at a music festival, rest assured, the disturbing trend looks to be on the way out.

Organisers at the Lollapalooza and Coachella music festivals in the US have become so fed up with gleeful selfie fans they've decided to ban the instruments at their upcoming events.

Attendees at Lollapalooza will be unable to get GoPro attachments like sticks, selfie sticks and monopods past the front gate, while Coachella has banned "selfie sticks / narcissists."

Lollapalooza's Twitter account said the decision was being made "for safety, to speed security checks at the gate & to reduce the number of obstructions between the fans and the stage."

In the U.S., Ultra Music Festival in Miami, one of the world's largest electronic music festivals, also prohibited selfie sticks at last weekend's event.

"They will be turned away and we'll probably make fun of you," Ultra said on its Twitter account earlier this month.

Sadly, so far Australia hasn't announced any similar plans - but rest assured local music festival organisers will undoubtedly be taking note.
