Girls Run The World When It Comes To Social Media

If you can’t start your morning without liking something, double-tapping or tweeting, you’re definitely not alone.

According to mashable.com, 71% of the world is now on Facebook, with 42% of those using multiple networking sites. Even more interestingly, women have now overtaken men as the more prolific users of social media.

While we can take a few guesses as to why this is (rise of the selfie, anyone?), Finance Online ascertained that women are leading market sales via online shopping, which is driven by social media sites such as Pinterest and Instagram.

The study also found that more than half of women engage with their favorite brands via these social media platforms, while less than half of men interact in the same way.

With 60 per cent of social media time spent on smartphones and tablets (40% of women vs 20% of men for tablet usage), the site reasons that it will only be a matter of time before women tip marketers into creating social mobiles (where do we sign up?!).

On the flipside, you’ll probably be unsurprised to note that women take far more selfies for social media purposes than men do, and they’re more expressive with their poses.

According to a study by Selfie Net, women are 1.3 times more likely to take selfies than men in Bangkok, while women in Moscow take selfies an astounding 4.6 times more than men.

But the stats flip once men reach the age of 40, at which point they actually take more selfies than women do. Why? We can only guess that Obama must have started a craze...
