Watch Matt Okine’s Speech About The Lack Of Female ARIA Nominees

Last night, Triple J breakfast co-host Matt Okine won an ARIA for Best Comedy Release.

During his acceptance speech, Okine used the opportunity to point out that there were no female nominees in his category.

“I didn’t feel great reading that list of people,” he said.

“I thought, hold on there’s no women in my category... People might say that’s something you would say for attention, but I feel like, ‘what should I do, just be passive’?”

“A lot of guys my age think you’re doing enough by not doing anything bad.”

Okine’s speech was not broadcast during the Network Ten coverage of the event. However, the footage was posted to the official ARIA Twitter page later in the night.
