However his father, the late Prince Rainier III, he says would have been the softie. "He would have been a little more indulgent," said Albert. "More lenient than he was with myself and my sisters."

As for his sisters, Princess Stephanie and Princess Caroline, "Stephanie has come by more often than Caroline," he revealed.

"But that's because Caroline is busy still, with her own daughter Alexandre. Stephanie came over yesterday to see the kids. Not to babysit, but if they want to volunteer for babysitting duty they'll be most welcomed."

The royal also opened up about balancing fatherhood with running a country, admitting its been a "challenge".

"Actually that's been the challenge of the past year, finding enough private time to be with my wife and kids," he said.

"Fatherhood changes your outlook. You learn to think more ahead. I kind of knew I would be evolving. Other fathers told me that, and it's true. You have to take your time, take advantage of every moment you can because it goes by so quickly. And you need to grab those opportunities, those moments, because you can't get them back."
