If you’re a filmmaker with a biopic in development, better give Natalie Portman a call. In the past week the 33-year old Oscar-winner has signed on to not one, but two high profile biopics.

The first is the much-anticipated first film chronicling the life and times of controversial, opinionated and truly badass US Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg (known affectionately in the American media as the Notorious RGB).

The second film Portman has signed onto, however, is much more exciting. The actress has announced that she will play America’s favourite first lady Jackie Kennedy in a movie called, simply, Jackie, chronicling the four days after the assassination of JFK in 1963. Darren Aronofsky, the director who steered her to Oscar glory in Black Swan, will produce.

Portman, who has four films out in the next year, not to mention the premiere of her directorial debut – drama A Tale Of Love And Darkness, set during the Israeli-Palestinian conflict – at the Cannes Film Festival, are we about to see the resurgence of Portman, post Marvel blockbusters and young child-induced hiatuses?

To paraphrase Vanity Fair, welcome to the Portmanaissance.
