Why Eva Mendes Won't Be Celebrating Mother's Day

Eva Mendes might be the proud mother of a new baby daughter, but she's certainly not expecting any gifts on Mother's Day this year.

The actress and her partner, Ryan Gosling (we can say that without flying into a rage now) welcomed Esmeralda into the world in September last year, but says she feels she hasn't earned her keep as a mother yet.

"There is no plan," Mendes admitted to Access Hollywood Live. "I kind of feel like I haven't quite earned my stripes yet in a way. She's seven months [old]."

Instead, the actress will be visiting her own mother along with her younger brother, Carlos Mendez, who is battling cancer.

"This Mother's Day is definitely all about my mom," said Mendes. "She's had a really hard year. My brother's sick, so it's all about my mom, honouring her. We're all going to go over to her house and bombard her with love."

Since having Esmeralda, Mendes said she'd gained a new appreciation for her own mother.

"Now I understand so much, my mother's never gotten more 'I love you so much mommy' texts, I mean, randomly... ya, I get it now."
