David Beckham turned 40 on the weekend. He celebrated with his family and friends – including four of the original spice girls, Scary Spice was sadly absent – in a private villa in Morocco, slept in, opened presents, ate a bountiful breakfast and partied the night away with wife Victoria.
How do we know all this? Well, Beckham’s birthday gift to the world was that he joined Instagram.

The star made his first post – a topless selfie taken in bed – on the morning of his birthday (May 2). It was an auspicious beginning: his instagram account jumped from nought to 3.9 million followers in a matter of 48 hours. Since then, Beckham has shared nine pictures of his friends and family celebrating his fortieth – dubbed #DB40 on Instagram – with his followers.

It’s only been 48 hours and already Beckham has become an Instagram expert. He’s uploaded video, tinkered with filters and become proficient in hashtagging.
