Carrie Bickmore Uses Logies Speech To Raise Awareness Of Brain Cancer

Carrie Bickmore might have taken out the Gold Logie for the Most Popular Personality on Australian television last night, but the real win was in her flawless acceptance speech.

Rather than focus on herself, The Project host used her time to raise awareness of brain cancer, which claimed the life of her husband, Greg Lange, in 2010.

"He was an incredibly brave man, he was a great dad, he was a great husband, he was a great brother and he was a great friend but he shouldn't have had to go through that, no one should have to go through that," a clearly emotional Bickmore said.

Bickmore said throughout Lange's cancer journey he used to wear a lot of beanies, and slipped one on her own head.

"Throughout his cancer journey, he used to wear a lot of hats and he used to wear a lot of beanies and that was because he felt embarrassed about his scars and his head.

"I used to say to him don't be embarrassed, scars are really, really cool and beanies are also really cool."

Bickmore urged everyone in Australia to wear a beanie and talk about the disease that kills more people aged under 40 than any other cancer.

"I want to get the nation talking about brain cancer," Bickmore said.

The actress, who is now happily married to Chris Walker, dedicated her award to fellow sufferers and carers.

"I want to dedicate this award to anyone who is going through a really s**t time right now, anyone who is supporting someone right now, there is light at the end of the tunnel, please believe that," Bickmore said.
