A new video clip has provided a peek into one of our most anticipated films of the year.

Carey Mulligan stars in the number-one period drama on our radar: Far From The Madding Crowd. (We've seen it – it's good. Trust us!)

An adaptation of Thomas Hardy’s famous novel, the film tells the story of Bathsheba Everdeen, a strong, independent woman who runs her own farm in sleepy Dorset. Aside from the beautiful costumes – created by Australian Janet Patterson, the Oscar-nominated costume designer of Bright Star, Peter Pan and The Piano – the film’s chief focus are three men fighting for Bathsheba’s hand: Tom Sturridge, Michael Sheen and Matthias Schoenaerts.

Two of them are featured in this clip, shared by Vanity Fair, which sees Mulligan perform a traditional folk song for two of her suitors (the older, wealthy neighbouring farmer, Sheen’s Mr. Boldwood, and the gentle giant that is Schoenaerts’ Gabriel Oak).

Carey Mulligan is slated to have a stellar year in 2015. As well as Far From The Madding Crowd, she’s currently headlining the David Hare play Skylight on Broadway and will star in the hotly-anticipated early feminist film Suffragette (co-starring Meryl Streep as Emmeline Pankhurst), out later this year.

Watch the clip below. Far From The Madding Crowd opens in Australia on June 25.
