Furious 7 – the seventh installment of the Fast & Furious franchise – will be the last time blonde-haired, blue-eyed golden boy Paul Walker graces the big screen. Walker, who died in a car accident on the way to an event for his charity Reach Out in 2013, has appeared in every Fast & Furious film bar one (the third film Tokyo Drift, set in Japan). In the franchise, he plays Brian O’Conner, the kind-hearted sometimes-criminal who’s handy with a carbureta. Apparently there’s a very moving tribute to the actor at the end of the film. We advise bringing tissues.

The stunts are bigger and better than ever before

With every Fast & Furious film comes an ever-escalating set of ridiculous stunt scenes. There have been drag races through Rio de Janeiro’s favelas; Paul Walker and Tyrese Gibson have driven a Camaro into the back of a moving superyacht in Miami and there was one absolutely memorable moment when the gang stole an entire bank vault (from a terrorist, mind, these are criminals with a heart of gold) by strapping it to the bumper of Vin Diesel’s 4WD and dragging it across several very public main roads while the police chased after them. How could Furious 7 possibly top that? With flying cars. And planes. And shooting planes out of the sky. The team has clearly made use of every cent of the film’s conservatively-estimated $250 million budget.

Jason Statham plays the bad guy

British action hero par excellence Jason Statham – star of the Transporter and Expendables series – was born to play a smooth-talking menace of a bad guy in a Fast & Furious film. Finally, he’s fulfilling his life’s purpose as Deckard Shaw, a Black Ops-trained baddie out for bloodlust revenge. His climactic fight scene with Vin Diesel – the series’ resident alpha male – is supposedly the stuff of cinematic legend.

Helen Mirren loves it

That’s right: everyone’s favourite Dame wishes she had a role in the Fast & Furious franchise. Speaking to Yahoo! Movies, the actress revealed that her “great ambition is to be in a Fast & Furious movie”. Mirren, who is renowned for always doing her own stunt driving (even in action movies, like Red where she starred as a retired MI6 assassin). “I keep putting it out there, and they never ask me. I so want to be a mad driver in a Fast & Furious movie. I’ll be in [the next one].”

The Australian singer is continuing her streak of domination and has landed herself the role of ‘Female Racer’. We’ll know for sure today what exactly that role entails, but with the speed at which her career has taken off, it’s no wonder that the cast welcomed her aboard.
