Yahoo Lifestyle Victoria Beckham Named Decade's Most Inspirational Woman
After being named the UK's most successful entrepreneur, Victoria Beckham has also taken out the most inspirational woman in fashion title.
The 39-year old mother of four is a deserving winner: not only has she built a business worth £210 million (approx. $414 million AU), she's also a United Nations Goodwill Ambassador.
"I recently visited South Africa and was so touched by the women I met," Beckham said of her first appointment in the role. "I came home and I knew I had to do something. For some reason people will listen to me. This is the beginning of an incredible journey for me."'
Beckham is also hailed as a savvy business woman, with Andrew Saunders, deputy editor of Management Today, telling The Telegraph UK, "She gets a lot of stick for being a celeb fashionista but I don't think that's fair. She has built something real out of her celebrity, which is quite a contemporary story. She deserves to be celebrated."
Grazia editor-in-chief, Jane Burton, said the win was well-deserved considering that 10 years ago, we knew Victoria only as a Spice Girl and one half of an A-list power couple.
"She made no secret of her love for fashion but was known for wearing, not creating it," explained Burton.
Beckham is in good company with her win: Emma Watson took out the top spot in the entertainment section, while Girls creator Lena Dunham was named the most inspirational in culture.
Watson was heralded for launching the gender equality campaign #HeForShe last year, while Dunham is widely credited with helping young girls understand the concept of feminism.
Lastly, Nobel Peace Prize winner and marie claire favourite Malala Yousafzai beat former U.S. First Lady Hillary Clinton to the top politics prize for her extensive work in girls' education across the world.
