There aren't a lot of celebrities we'd support in a political seat - but if Angelina Jolie was one of them, we might change our minds.

The A-list actress and humanitarian hinted to Vanity Fair in its December issue that she'd be "open" to a career in politics, but was unsure if she'd be able to commit to something full time.

"I honestly don't know in what role I would be more useful - I am conscious of what I do for a living, and that [could] make it less possible," said Jolie in a nod to her acting/directing career.

However, she adds, "I am open".

The philanthropic actress has made no secret of her decision to pare back her acting career to focus on the other side of the camera.

"I've had a wonderful career and I'm very happy to have had all the opportunities I've had to tell stories and work for as long as I have," she said. "I'd like to focus more on writing and directing and above all I would like to do more for the UN and my work with the Preventing Sexual Violence Initiative."

Jolie, who was named an Honorary Dame by the Queen in June, received a standing ovation after she delivered a speech against wartime rape at the Global Summit to End Sexual Violence in Conflict in London.
