The truth is (still) out there - according to TV execs anyway.

Vanity Fair reports that everyone's favourite cult show, The X-Files, is heading back to our screens.

The 90s sci-fi series is rebooting after a 13-year hiatus, and all the gang is getting back together. David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson – who played agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully – will star, while show creator Chris Carter is back onboard to oversee the whole enterprise.

The show will be backed by Fox and will return for six episodes – and six episodes only – in the very near future.

Anderson and Duchovny both have other TV projects on the boil: She is the lead in crime noir hits The Fall and Hannibal and he is currently at work on 60s drama Aquarius .

Filming for The X-Files will commence in the American summer this year although no air date has been confirmed at this stage.
