The Sand Snakes from Game Of Thrones Season 5

In case you need another reason to be excited for the return of Game of Thrones in just under six weeks, we’ve got one for you. In fact, we’ve got three.

Meet Obara, Tyene and Nymeria, three strong female characters joining the television show for season five. They’re the illegitimate daughters of the (Warning: season four spoiler alert incoming) sadly departed and squashed Oberyn Martell, Prince of Dorne.

These women are skilled, deadly warriors hell-bent on revenge for their father. They wield some impressive weapons (whips, spears and twin daggers), are outfitted in some truly exciting leather breastplates and arm bands, and are collectively known by the threatening nickname ‘The Sand Snakes’.

Tyene and Nymeria are played by two up-and-coming actresses (Rosabell Sellers and Jessica Henwick) while the role of Obara, the ringleader of the group, is played by Keisha Castle-Hughes, the Oscar-nominated New Zealand star of Whale Rider. Their purpose in the story is to avenge their father and bring honour upon their house. And it looks like it’s going to be fun to watch them bring a whole world of pain upon Kings Landing this season.

Season five will air in Australia on Foxtel’s Showcase on April 13.
