5 Minutes With Isabelle Cornish

Did you always want to get into acting?
I did, it all really started when I was about 5 and my mum put me in a bunch of TV commercials. I don't remember them very well, but I know one was for cleaning products and the other one was about child abuse! Then I had a break from it until I was about 15 or 16 at my mum's request.

Can you tell us a bit about your time on Puberty Blues?
Yeah that was great, I really enjoyed shooting the show and the concept was something that hadn’t really been done before. To be able to re-enact something that most of Australia remembers and make it into a show was really special. I can't wait to get started on the second season.

You have an amazing following on Instagram (@isabellecornishh) with nearly 70,000 fans – how do you think social media has affected your career?
I don’t even know how I got that many followers, it’s so random! I remember when I was at 700 followers, and I was like, this is weird, why are this many people following me? And then all of a sudden it just exploded and after that I just got sucked in! I have a crazy fan base, it’s really cool. I guess they must enjoy looking at my photos?!

I think a lot of people have gotten to know me somewhat through instagram, so that’s an advantage. Everyone uses it now - you can connect with work people, you can connect with labels. It’s a whole other communication platform that I really enjoy.

I noticed you have a medium-format camera in a lot of your pics, is photography a hobby of yours?
It is! My boyfriend Mitch is really into it too, he has a collection of about 30 old-school cameras. His room is just filled with them. He's super intelligent and knows everything about cameras and photography.

In the last two years I’ve really gotten into film cameras and polaroids. I always have a camera in my bag! Mitch and I will go out and walk around the streets and take photos on the weekends. The other day we went out with seven cameras between us!

How would you describe your style?
I don’t stick to one thing. I really like vintage clothing, and I really like designer clothing! I like to mix everyday items with things you can’t find anywhere. A lot of the time when people ask where I’ve gotten something, I won’t be able to tell them; I just find random things and revamp them!

I also really like scrap booking and I also make my own jewellery. That’s something I want to get into later this year.

You’re signed with a US talent agency – are there any plans for you to go over to the States?
Yeah I’m signed with UTA (a talent agency), and I’ve been to the states three times since I joined them. I was doing auditions for Transformers 4, which was great, but I’m staying here for now because I’m working a lot. I’ll probably move over there by the end of next year though. I feel really lucky that I was able to line up an agent and do a few tests so I know how things work over there and I know a lot of people over there.

Finish these sentences:
The number 1 album on my playlist at the moment is...
The Weekend.

If I wasn’t an actress I would be...
Probably travelling the world or on exchange I think. Or I’d be studying something like animal science!

My number 1 tip for a good hair day is...
I think just clean, fresh hair. I really love the new Kerastase Cristalliste Liquid Lumiere as well, it gives my hair a really nice, shiny finish.

The number 1 piece of clothing I can’t live without is...
I’m obsessed with jackets in general. I love my fluro orange Adidas jacket, which is so old-school! I found it in my mum’s closet, she was going to throw it out! It’s about 30 years old and so ghetto (laughs). I love it.

My life motto is...
Always be as happy as possible and always make the most out of everything.
