Kim Kardashian Reveals The Dress She Almost Wore To The 2014 Met Ball

Every time Kim Kardashian appears on those famous red-carpet clad Met steps, she generates column inches. It's hard to forget, when she dons custom couture while heavily pregnant (Givenchy, in 2013) or appears nearly-naked in a sheer Roberto Cavalli gown festooned with strategically placed feathers at last year's event.

But in 2014, Kim appeared almost demure in a chic, sleek sapphire-blue gown with a sexy thigh-high split, custom-made for the reality TV star by Alber Elbaz at Lanvin. The dress' best accessory was husband Kanye West, who looked dapper in a coat and tails and didn't leave his wife's side all night.

Yesterday, Kim revealed that the dress - beautiful and chic as it undoubtedly is - was actually a last-minute replacement for her first choice. Elbaz had originally envisioned a version of the dress in a mercurial, gold sequinned fabric and cinched in at the waist with a leather belt. There's even a picture of Kim trying it on, with a team of seamstresses making adjustments behind her.
