The Story Behind Rihanna's Cape Dress

If there’s a red carpet event to trump them all, it has to be the MET Gala. Not only does it feature some of the biggest A-list celebrities on the planet (seriously, Beyonce, Miranda Kerr and Rihanna all in one room?) it also offers up some of the most innovative fashion of the year.

Case in point: Rihanna sent Instagram into meltdown when she entered the gala in a yellow fur cape dress...and not much else.

In keeping with the theme of the ball (China: through the looking glass), Rihanna chose to wear a Chinese designer, telling Vanity Fair the elaborate cape dress had taken two years to make.

“I’m so in love with this dress, but the train is insane!” Rihanna said. “I can’t really walk in it without any help. But it’s so worth it. I love this dress so much! It’s Chinese couture and it’s made by Guo Pei. It’s handmade by one Chinese woman and it took her two years to make. I found it online.”

While it might not be the average red carpet gown, we have to give props to Rihanna for her innovative look. After all, isn’t that what fashion is all about?
