Fashionistas strolling down Milan’s exclusive shopping strip Via Montenapoleone this week are in for a treat. The street’s 24 manhole covers (leading down to Milan’s complex underground sewerage system) have undergone a colourful, high fashion redesign, just in time for Milan Fashion Week.

Top Italian fashion brands including Giorgio Armani, Versace, Missoni and Prada have taken over the street’s manhole covers, designing their own colourul versions. Missoni’s features one of its iconic colourful zig zag prints in an eye-catching swirl. Prada and Giorgio Armani opted for monochrome, while Salvatore Ferragamo went for an exotic theme: featuring a giraffe, leopard and Zebra in front of Milan’s iconic Duomo cathedral.
The project, run by Milan’s city council, will be on display until January next year. After that, the manhole covers will be auctioned off to raise funds for Oxfam Italy.
