This morning in Milan, the sun shone as I took my brisk morning walk around the Costello near my hotel, The Spadari.

First up today was Stella Jean, the emerging Haitian-Italian designer. Her collection was filled with full skirts and feminine details, layered with masculine knits and shirting. Stella Jean’s inspiration came from the Himalayas, and all the layering - of the fabrics, prints and shapes - spoke clearly of a nomadic influence.

I love that Stella Jean is involved with the Ethical Fashion Initiative, which connects fashion designers with artisans in developing countries. Fashion with heart indeed.

Next up we got a taste of Gucci's new direction under the creative hand of Alessandro Michele (following the departure of Frida Giannini last month).

These girls bore little resemblance to the Gucci glamazons we have become used to under Giannini’s tenure; in their place were sweet, bookish, romantic ingénues wearing berets, beanies and optical frames along with floral dresses, bow necked blouses and printed coats. Quite a change indeed. If Michele is looking to signal a new direction - and a break from Giannini's aesthetic - then he has achieved it. And then some.

No 21 was last but not least. We love No 21 at marie claire (named after designer Alessandro Dell’Acqua’s lucky number) - and this show did not disappoint, with pretty, voluminous dresses, signature coats, layered shirts and knits.

And, yes, in between shows we did manage to fit in a spot of shopping…. (we are in Milan after all!) We heard about two fabulous vintage stores (my new favourite type of shopping). Having FOMO? The good news is that one of them is online. Visit La Double J for a little vintage Milanese exploration from your own home. Buonanotte.
