MBFW Designer Q&A: Zimmermann

What’s the inspiration behind your spring/summer collection?

The collection is called "Clique, Clique". We were inspired by the idea of a small group of young, renegade women, doing their own thing. Their attitude. Strong and unafraid but still feminine.

What sort of prints and textures are featured in your upcoming range?
Central to the collection is the way we have mixed prints and mixed different fabric textures. We’ve placed our prints on a mix of bases – key silks are coated to make them high tech and high sheen. We want them to glisten and shine.

What’s your favourite fashion week memory?
I always remember the first fashion week because we didn’t really know what we were doing at the time and when it was all done there was so many great things happened for us. It really was a bit of a turning point, particularly with our swim. There’s been lots of great and not so great memories since then. We had a black out a few years back just as our show was about to start, which was interesting…… But mostly it’s been about the fun that we’ve had with the people we work with on our shows.

What are you most looking forward to at fashion week this year?
For me, every year the excitement is always just to see how it comes together because you never really know. All the effort and the work by so many people for a short presentation – I enjoy seeing the collection come out.

What will you be doing after fashion week wraps?
There’s never much time off after we show. We will finish up our High Summer Swim collection and shoot the new campaign somewhere hot. And I will spend some time in America for the launch of our new store in New York.
