2015 Was A Good Year To Be A Fashion Blogger

While it's become common knowledge that there's big bucks to be made in the blogosphere, a new report by Women's Wear Daily has been released outlining exactly how much money is being made, and by whom.

Italian blogger Chiara Ferragni of The Blonde Salad continues to reign as the queen of the blogosphere. With a whopping 5.2 million Instagram followers, Ferragni makes a pretty penny from her site alone but also rakes it in with personal appearances, brand partnerships and her shoe line which all collectively served to reach the $US10 million mark in 2015.

"We don’t have superbig money deals — only one-third of our work is paid and the rest is organic content," Alessio Sanzogni, group general manager of Chiara Ferragni, Theblondesalad.com and Chiara Ferragni Collection, told WWD.

Switzerland-born blogger Kristina Bazan (who has 2.2 million Instagram followers) made headlines in 2015 when she became the first blogger to land a seven-figure deal with L'Oreal. Such deals were previously only hled by the biggest names in Hollywood including Blake Lively, Julianne Moore and Eva Longoria.

"She is a bridge between classical advertising and the consumer," said Yann Joffredo, vice president of global cosmetics at L’Oréal Paris.

"Kristina really works with us, she gives us feedback on our products, and as she is a real L’Oréalista and very connected with her community, it gives us very useful insights," she added.

"She is also an insider to all of our events, again to show in her own way, the L’Oréal Paris world. This is a deep relationship, [it’s] very unique [and] not the kind we have with magazines — that are also very strong, but in a different way."

However, deals such as Bazan's, for now are few and far between, but the bloggers are surviving - and thriving - off the "smaller" deals for now, with single posts alone being worth anywhere from $5,000 to $25,000 — this has increased five times in just 18 months.

"We all need to stop pretending that it’s a bad thing that digital influencers are compensated for their work," Raina Penchansky, cofounder of Digital Brand Architects, or DBA told WWD. "The digital space, bloggers included, is egalitarian. And since when is egalitarian a bad thing?"

While the bloggers are no doubt making big bank, they continue to remain a fair way behind the biggest celebrity Instagram stars including Kendall Jenner, Cara Delevingne and Gigi Hadid who can command anywhere from $100,000 to $300,000 for a single post.
