Cara Delevingne may be one of the world's most famous models, but she had some harsh words to say about the industry today.

The 21-year old, who first shot to fame in 2011, says she'd "never" let her daughter be a model because she'd want her to "aspire to better" than that.

"You know, I get a lot of girls who say, 'I just want to be a model so badly.' And I think: 'you can do better than that'", Cara told The Guardian. "You're looked through, you're not looked at, you are treated as a kind of mannequin. I got a tattoo saying 'Made in England' above my foot to represent that, that I felt like a doll for so long. Because you are just a kind of puppet, you know, entertainment. You kind of feel that you need to have no soul really, to do that job, a little bit."

The model added that while she "loves her job" and is reluctant to say anything bad about it, she wants young girls to realise they can do a lot more with their lives.

"I was incredibly lucky to do as well as I've done, it's not easy, there's so many models who go through so much shit, and it's just, if you have a brain, which everyone does, use it and try and do something else," said Delevingne.

The model must be taking her own advice, because she appears to be trying to make the transition into film.

Delevingne stars as the girlfriend of a soldier serving in Afghanistan in the made for TV movie, Playhouse Presents: Timeless, and she's actually quite convincing.

It seems her co-star, 80-year old Sylvia Syms, agrees, because the acclaimed actor heaped praise on her much younger colleague, likening her to Audrey Hepburn.

"I worked years ago with a beautiful girl who became very famous," the 80-year-old actress told the Evening Standard. "This child here has the same quality which is known as not acting for the camera. She is real and an absolute joy to work with. I was told I was going to work with a model and I had never heard of her but I literally fell in love with her on the first day. The other girl I loved was Audrey Hepburn."
