The world’s most expensive dress, priced at approximately $5.7 million, has been revealed.
The gown, which is made up of 50 two carat black diamonds and weighs 29 lbs (13.3kgs) made its catwalk debut at Ukraine Fashion Week, stunning onlookers with its dazzling detail.
An exorbiant 25 black diamonds line the peplum silhouette, with another 25 lining the shoulder shrug and detachable shoulder line. The gown is further fused with gold thread and white diamonds.
The extravagant design was completely hand-sewn by British designer Debbie Wingham, who reportedly took six months just to craft the bodice.
"It's an anthem for a beautiful woman who loves life," said Wingham, whose clients include Kate Winslet, Hilary Swank, Amy Smart, Catherine Jenkins, Rebecca Ferguson, and Dita Von Teese, according to the Daily Mail.
While it’s hard to ascertain who might wear such an expensive creation, it’s not the first time a designer has tried to appeal to the high-end luxe market in recent times, with the world’s most expensive perfume revealed in December, and a series of $2 million luxury handbags unveiled by Hermes in March.
“I have no idea [who will buy them] but maybe they will have two bodyguards!” said Hermes CEO, Patrick Thomas, at the time. "But there’s no doubt these bags will be bought.”
Thomas added that although the current economic climate wasn’t ideal for launch, the company was willing to take the risk. “We are a little crazy here,” he joked.Images courtesy of WENN.
