We've heard of some pretty bizarre beauty treatments over the years, but this one takes the cake.

The latest craze involves setting one's hair on fire in an effort to get rid of split ends - leaving you with smooth, blunt locks.

"The burning supposedly opens up the hair follicle, making it more receptive to nutrients, in turn making the conditioning treatment even more effective," reported the LA Times. "It takes three and a half hours, and loyalists get it done about every four months."

Called Velaterapia, the Brazilian beauty treatment is currently the talk of the town thanks to Victoria's Secret angel Alessandra Ambrosio, who posted the results of the treatment to her Instagram account (flawless, of course).

She's not the only Victoria's Secret model who's a fan of Velaterapia however - Barbara Fialho admits she's addicted to the treatment.

Fialho told Fashionista that due to the constant stress and torture she puts her hair through, Velaterapia keeps it manageable and healthy. When in her native Brazil, she visits Laces and Hair Salon in Sao Paolo and undergoes the treatment.

"They burn the hair to get rid of split ends," she explained. Laces also does "embroidery" therapy, where they meticulously cut only split ends throughout all the hair length. "It's unbelievable. You don't get shorter hair, but if you touch the treated side it feels so much smoother and healthier!"

So is this reason enough to go out and set your hair on fire?

Perhaps not - Velaterapia caters to women who have full, thick hair - so naturally, not all hair is going to be able to withstand the same kind of treatment.

Basically, we advise you not to try this at home - you've been warned!
