How To: Get A Natural Red Carpet Glow

Here’s how to achieve the same natural red carpet glow:

1. Cleanse and exfoliate
Even if your social calendar is looking a bit empty, it’s important to get into a regular exfoliating routine. Whether you have dry, normal, oily or sensitive skin, exfoliation can help bring new life to your complexion. Removing dead skin cells using a gentle scrub or peel will help reveal the softer, more radiant skin that lies beneath.

2. Rehydrate your skin
Moisturising is essential to achieving a youthful complexion. Even if your skin tends to be normal to oily, using a high quality moisturiser on a regular basis will help improve the way that your skin looks and feels. Look for products with amino-peptides such as the Olay Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Cream, it will speed up the production of collagen and regenerate your skin cells for stunning, youthful skin.

3. Apply light foundation or powder
Once you’ve moisturised, it’s time to apply a light foundation or powder using a dry makeup sponge. Start at the centre of your forehead and blend upwards to your hairline. From here, move down the bridge of your nose, out to your cheeks, and down to your chin. Lastly, apply the foundation gently around the jawbone, all the way up to the upper part of your neck so that the skin colour is uniform.

4. Use a highlighter
As skin matures it begins to lose some of the lustre it had when we were younger, but what is gone can easily be faked. To give yourself a more youthful and radiant glow, apply a highlighter beneath your eyes - to your cheekbones and to your brow bones - to add brightness. This will help you to look healthier and younger. Tip: choose a highlighter that does not contain shimmer, as this won’t look as natural.

5. Emphasise your eyes
If you want to achieve a natural look, opt for a brown shade of eyeliner as opposed to a black one. The brown will look more natural and not as harsh on the eyes. Try different shades to see what works best for your skin tone. Lastly, you’ll want to complete your natural look by applying a thin layer of mascara to your lashes.

6. Don’t forget to blush
Subtly rosy cheeks make you look healthy and radiant. Apply a slight layer of cream blush to the apples of your cheeks, and then blend the colour upwards toward your temples using your fingertips. If you’re a little wary of colour, apply a small amount of blush first and then add more if you need to. It’s better to start with less.

7. Create luscious looking lips
If your lips are dry or chapped, gently buff them with a damp cloth and then apply lip balm. Let it sink in, dab it dry, and then apply a subtle shade of lipstick. Apply the lipstick to the centre of your lips first, and then gently blend the colour out over your lips. Patting the colour on with your fingertip will help the colour to last.

Achieving a no-makeup look allows your natural beauty to shine through. Though the stars have a team of people to help them, there’s no reason you can’t achieve the same look at home. Play around with a few looks too.
