Party Hair How-To: The Low-Slung Plait

As seen at: Valentino.

Best for: The champagne brunch.

Moving away from the fishtail-style braids of last season, this party-ready plait is "romantic and youthful – it’s a pretty look that works on those with longer lengths, as long as you keep hair textured for a windswept effect", advises Josh.

Pro tip: “Those with thicker hair will need to be mindful as you don’t want the sections you’re wrapping around the head to be too wide, or you’ll end up looking like a bridesmaid” – Sam Overton, Unilever Haircare.

How-to:

1. Texture is key to preserve the ethereal nature of this style. Prep damp hair with a mousse or sea salt spray.
2. Take a small, 3cm section from each side of the head at the temple and either braid or twist the sections so they meet at the back of the crown. Secure ends with a bobby pin and set with hairspray.
3. Loosely plait lengths from the mid-lengths to the ends, mussing up with your fingers to create more texture.
4. Secure the ends with elastic and spritz with hairspray.

The kit:
1. SMOOTHIES Snag-Free Ponytail Holders, $7.15 for 24.
2. JOHN FRIEDA Frizz Ease Air-Dry Waves, $16.99.
