How To Wear Bright Makeup

Go for bold

Just like the year’s hottest fashion trend, make-up artists have embraced “colour blocking”, too, by pairing vivid bursts of complimentary shades on both eyes and lips. “It’s fabulous, fun and who doesn’t want to stand out and look beautiful?” asserts make-up maestro Napoleon Perdis. Unsure which hues to choose? Perdis suggests pairing forest green with orange, or pastel blue with lolly pink. But when in doubt, opt for purple-based eyeshadows or lip shades. “It’s a universally flattering hue that enhances any eye colour or skin tone,” points out Perdis.

Easy does it
Not game enough to play up your eyes and lips together? Perdis explains that you don’t have to go OTT to incorporate colour into your party make-up routine. He suggests choosing just one feature – eyes or lips – and then slowly building up to the desired effect. So, for instance, if a bold lip is too much, try a tint or stain and gradually work your way up to a stronger intensity. Or if you’re wary about wearing a bold shadow all over your lids, then simply smudge a little into your top lash line for a subtle hint of colour.

Insider secret:
“To avoid fallout when applying coloured shadow, try wetting your brush before applying shadow to it. This will help hold pigment between the bristles of your brush to adhere to your eye more easily,” says Perdis.
