How To Get Back Into Shape This Spring

Q: How do you recommend getting back into shape after winter?
A: “Step 1. Clean up your diet: Go into your kitchen and give it a good overhaul. Throw out any food items with numbers on the nutritional label, as this is good indication of food additives. Find a local farmers’ market or good-quality health food store in your area, and stock up on good-quality highly nutritious whole (unprocessed) foods. Whole foods are more satiating and make you feel fuller for longer. Alternatively, you can order an Eat Fit Food 5, 10 or 20-day program to give you a kick-start and give you great ideas on what to cook.

Step 2. Get Moving: Set weekly exercise goals and buddy up with someone to exercise with who is going to make you accountable.

Step 3. Portion Control: Eat smaller portions six times per day and only eat until you are 80 per cent full. Chew you food properly and eat slowly. This allows time for your food to be digested correctly and for your body to register when you are actually feeling full.

Step 4. Don’t Deprive Yourself: Have one free day per week when you can eat whatever you like. If we deprive ourselves of the things we love it becomes unsustainable.”

Q: Crash diets and detoxes are often seen as quick fixes for weight loss. Do they work?
A: “They definitely do not work. You may lose weight in the short term, but you will definitely put it back on, plus additional weight when you finish. The rollercoaster ride is never-ending. Crash diets and detoxs are unsustainable when there is no lifestyle change in place, as they promote an unhealthy relationship with food. Eat Fit Food’s 10-day Detox program is packed with whole foods and could be a continued as an everyday way of eating.”

Q: Nutritionally, is there a way to minimise the appearance of cellulite?
A: “[Yes], choose a selection of healthy omega-3 fats instead of saturated fats. They are found in foods like flaxseed, fish oils, and nuts. This will assist with blood circulation. Poor circulation reduces the body’s ability to deliver nutrients to skin cells causing them to clump together, which can compound cellulite problems. [And try to] remove or limit tobacco, alcohol, refined sugars, caffeine and heavily processed foods containing food additives from your diet. Make sure you drink plenty of water, at least eight glasses per day.”

Q: If you have a big event coming up that you want to look your best at. What do you recommend?
A: “Jump on board our 20-Day Overhaul. This program is free of dairy, wheat, gluten, red meat, unhealthy fats, refined sugars, food chemicals and preservatives. Twenty days is a good amount of time to get some amazing results, including clear skin, weight loss and even getting that event glow we all wish for. If you haven’t got enough time a 5-Day Cleanse or 10-day Detox will also give you some great results and make you feel better about yourself. Obviously, the more time you put in and more you resist those afternoon treats circulating the office the more you will get out of it.”
