Why Making It's Stephanie found watching the show 'really hard'

The latest contestant to be eliminated from Making It, Stephanie Martinez has found it 'really hard' to watch the wholesome, crafty competition show on TV, and it's not for the reason you might think.

The mum-of-two from Victoria tells Yahoo Lifestyle that she's been in hospital with her daughter, Nikita for the past week after she suffered a burst appendix.

'Hard to be happy'

While the pair were able to catch up on some episodes after Nikita's surgery, party planner Stephanie admits it wasn't the same as tuning in with her whole family who, due to lockdown, weren't allowed to visit.

"It was really hard to be happy because we weren't all together," she says. "It was just me and [Nikita] in the hospital while my husband was home with my son, so I didn't see my son for a week."

The separation was particularly hard on Nikita and her younger brother, Michael who have a close bond.

"It was very difficult because of COVID. They [Nikita and Michael] are very close and I said to them, 'We need to get through this. We can do this', and we did."

With her 'strong girl' back home and on the road to recovery, Stephanie is ready to enjoy the remainder of the Making It season with her loved ones by her side.

From Making It to MasterChef

And it might not be the last time we see Stephanie on reality TV — if she has anything to do about it.

The passionate crafter is equally obsessed with food and cooking — she runs a Greek-Cypriot deli, after all — and has her eye on Channel 10's other competition show, MasterChef.

"If I could do something with food, whether that's being a contestant or working on a show like MasterChef, oh my gosh I'd be in my element," she says.

Whatever Stephanie pursues, she has her time on Making It to thank for giving her that boost to achieve her dreams.

"For me to be chosen to be on the show, there's a reason behind it and I'm just going to grab it with both hands and run with it.

"It's given me the confidence to go out and get what I really want."
