Royal fans are clearly reeling from Harry and Meghan’s shock announcement this morning that they will be ‘stepping back’ from royal duties, and now people reckon the Queen dropped a ‘major clue’ to the news in her Christmas speech.
Taking to social media to share their shock at the news, some people believe the Queen gave us all a heads up when she sat down to address the nation on December 25th.
The snap of the monarch, taken in the Queen’s Green Drawing Room and shared to Twitter at the time, is raising eyebrows over a glaringly obvious omission.
Visible is a large desk with several family photographs arranged to be in full view of the camera.
Kate and Will’s family Christmas snap is clearly displayed, as is a portrait of Prince Phillip, one of Charles and Camilla, and a black and white photo of the Queen’s father.
However, Harry, Meghan, and Archie, weren’t pictured in any frame.
People speculated on whether the Queen was actually dropping a huge hint, despite reports Harry and Meghan 'didn't consult any royals' about their decision to quit.
“So that's why the queen didn't have a photo of Harry, Meghan and their son next to her in her Christmas photo,” was one comment.
“The Queen tried to tell you about Harry and Meghan stepping back at Christmas. No photo of them during her speech. The clues were right there,” another person added.
Royal watchers gobsmacked at snub
Harry and Meghan were included in pictures decorating the desk in 2018, and are in fact the only faces that have been axed from the previous year’s line up, which included the family shot of the Queen with Charles and his two son’s and respective family members.
A glaringly obvious omission next to the wholesome snapshot of Wills and Kate’s family, who are often compared to the Sussex couple, royal watchers were gobsmacked by the decision to leave the pair out.
“Any reason why there is no photo of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle?” one asked.
“Noticeably missing is Harry and his family,” another agreed.
Queen 'disappointed' as Harry and Meghan quit
The Queen is said to be ‘hurt’ and has been left ‘disappointed’ by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle after the couple’s shock announcement they would be stepping down from their royal duties.
Buckingham Palace released an official statement speaking to rumours that the Queen and senior members of the royal family had no idea of the pair’s plans to release a statement on their Instagram page.
The short response from the palace states that discussions are at ‘an early stage’, contradicting Harry and Meghan’s statement that the decision has been made.
The statement has fanned the flames of rumours the Sussexes decision was made without the green light from Buckingham Palace.
“Discussions with The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are at an early stage,” the statement begins.
“We understand their desire to take a different approach, but these are complicated issues that will take time to work through.”
