Everyone thought they would be the Married At First Sight couple who would last the test of time, but in April Zoe Hendrix and Alex Garner announced they were splitting.
Zoe has now revealed on Instagram that Alex was the one who initiated their break up.
In a heartfelt essay, the 29-year-old admitted a lot of women had been asking her, “How do you know when it’s time to leave your husband?”
However, the mum-of-one explained she didn’t “choose this path”.
“I never thought the man I love so much would one day walk away,” Zoe said. “But he did.
“I never thought I would be alone taking care of our child 6 days a week in a suburb that no longer feels like home. But I do.”
Despite her struggles, Zoe encouraged women to find “strength” and “weather the storm”.
“We must learn to hold on to hope,” she said. “Even on days we just wish to end the pain.
“We must learn to embrace our struggles and know that tremendous growth can come from our breakdown.”
The pair announced they were separating three months ago, in a statement released on Instagram by Zoe.
“It is with sadness that Alex and I would like to state that we will be separating for now,” she wrote. “We are determined to ensure our beautiful daughter Harper-Rose continues to receive the unconditional love and nurturing she deserves from the both of us.”
Alex shared a similar statement on Instagram shortly after insisting that despite separating he and Zoe were still “civil”.
Alex and Zoe were first paired together on MAFS in 2015 and were one of the few success stories from the Channel Nine show.
The couple welcomed their first child together, a daughter they named Harper-Rose in November 2016.
They had previously been open about potentially tying the knot officially, with Zoe telling Confidential last year she was “looking forward to a spectacular proposal”.
