Married At First Sight star Sam Ball seems to have ignored safe driving rules, after sharing a video in which he appears to be filming on his phone while behind the wheel.

The clip shared on his Instagram stories shows what appears to be him stopped at a red light off Princes Highway in Sydney, with one hand on the wheel and another clutching the recording phone, with the caption, “Always red” splashed across the screen.

It continues with footage of the driver nearing a McDonald’s drive-thru while it’s dark.

In NSW, drivers who use a mobile phone illegally face demerit points penalties, while Learner, P1 and P2 licence holders are not permitted to use a phone at all while behind the wheel.

Full licence drivers can use a phone if it is either “in a cradle fixed to the vehicle and doesn't obscure your view of the road” or it “can be operated without touching any part of the phone, such as via Bluetooth or voice activation”.

Yahoo Lifestyle Australia has contacted Sam Ball for comment.

Earlier this year a Married At First Sight viewer was fined $337 for watching the Channel Nine show while driving along a busy motorway in Sydney.

“Highway Patrol officers were left shaking their heads this week after observing a person watching Married At First Sight on their phone while driving along the M1 near Sydney,” read a statement issued by NSW Police in March.

“The driver was issued with a $337 fine and 3 demerit points (driving with TV/VDU image visible).”

A photo shared on the official NSW Police Facebook page revealed the driver was in the middle of a dramatic screen featuring Cyrell and Martha scene when cops caught them in the act.
