We’ve heard of couple swapping, secret phone calls and cheating scandals on Married At First Sight, but hold onto your seats because this MAFS plot twist is bigger than anything you’ve imagined yet.

The US series has trumped Jess and Dan’s love games, with one of the show’s experts getting engaged to an ex-groom in real life.

Dr Jessica Griffin and former contestant Jon Francetic confirmed their engagement over the weekend after a year-long romance that certainly goes beyond the rules of the controversial social experiment.

Jon, who appeared in season six in the US, was originally paired with Molly Duff.

Unlike the Aussie series, the US MAFS brides and grooms actually commit to a legally binding marriage, and for Jon and Molly, relationship expert Dr Griffin was there to guide them throughout their relationship.

Ultimately things didn’t work out and they called it quits at the end of the show.

Jon began dating Dr Griffin five months later, with the couple going public with their romance in August.

After it was recently confirmed that Dr Griffin won’t be returning to the show as a relationship expert, the couple announced that they’re engaged over the weekend.

“I just love how happy she looks. Oh, and we got engaged at the Grand Canyon yesterday! And now @dr.jessicagriffin is mine forever,” Jon wrote on Instagram.
