Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade Technical Issue: What Happened During War and Treaty's Performance?

Viewers who tuned into the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade expecting to catch country duo The War and Treaty were thrown for a loop after a technical issue interrupted the schedule.

Toward the end of the 98th annual New York City parade broadcast, Today co-hosts Hoda Kotb, Al Roker and Savannah Guthrie had just introduced the husband and wife duo, singer-songwriters Michael Trotter Jr. and Tanya Trotter.

After Guthrie went on to introduce War and Treaty, cameras cut to the singers on a float. However, things remained silent, and their performance was stalled–an incident that quickly became a meme online.

"Well, you know what... Every now and then, there's a little hiccup," said Kotb. "A tiny one. We're getting our music," added Guthrie, "It'll be worth it. The War and Treaty are an incredible band. We've got Tanya and her husband, a veteran of the United States, so we cannot wait to hear from them. They're coming up any moment now."

Guthrie, Kotb and Roker continued to vamp as the broadcast cut to a view of the balloons and then eventually went to commercial.

When the broadcast returned, Guthrie introduced the musical duo. "Alright, here they are. Without further ado, the War and Treaty," said Guthrie, before the singers began their performance of "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)."
