Lupita Nyong'o is happily owning the "childless cat lady" title.
Previously, Republican vice presidential nominee J.D. Vance had tried to use it as a diss as he criticized people without kids.
In a 2021 speech, he blamed the "childless left" for the nation's problems and suggested that people with kids should have more voting power than those without children.
In a subsequent interview with Tucker Carlson, Vance doubled down on his stance, saying that people who haven't birthed children, like Vice President Kamala Harris, are "a bunch of childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives and the choices that they've made, and so they want to make the rest of the country miserable, too." He added, "It's just a basic fact."
After the comments resurfaced, they sparked a bunch of outrage, including from celebrities like Jennifer Aniston. Jen wrote on Instagram, "I truly can't believe that this is coming from a potential VP of the United States."
The actor, who's been open about her own "challenging" fertility struggles, further said, "All I can say is… Mr Vance, I pray that your daughter is fortunate enough to bear children of her own one day. I hope she will not need to turn to IVF as a second option. Because you are trying to take that away from her, too."
Now, Lupita has subtly weighed in on the discourse in a post celebrating her cat Yoyo's third birthday.
The Us star shared an Instagram post in which she was seen posing with Yoyo in front of a "Happy Birthday" banner. "Go Yoyo! It's your birthday!" she captioned the image. "Please join me in wishing him a very happy third birthday!"
Lupita also added the hashtag #Yoyoyyo, followed by "#ChildlessCatLady."
