Drew Barrymore has a good friend in Lucy Liu.

During an appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show Monday, Nov. 18, the Red One actress and her costar Kiernan Shipka talked to the host about dating and swapped stories, including one about a time Liu "found" Barrymore "hiding in my bushes" after a romantic split.

"She rang the gate and she was hiding and I came out. I was like, 'Where ... I don't see anyone here,' " recalled Liu, 55, of her Charlie's Angels costar, 49.

"And then you kind of came out of the bushes with leaves in your hair and you're like, 'I don't want him to see me here.' Remember?" she added.

"And I was like, 'What are you doing? Get in the house,' " Liu continued. "She was hiding literally in the bushes."

"Can you please hide in mine next time too?" chimed in Shipka, 25.

Barrymore explained to the audience that she was going through a bad breakup and was "depressed," hoping to spend the night at Liu's house.

"There's nothing better in heartbreak than your girlfriends," she said. "I don't know what it is for guys — I hope it's your guy friends and you go, 'Come over, I'm gonna take you for a drink.' "

Liu also said during the chat that her son, 9-year-old Rockwell, loved her new movie Red One and that "he was so proud of" his mom.

"I was stunned and it made me my heart, like, burst open," she admitted.

As for whether Rockwell has seen 2000's Charlie's Angels, which starred his mom, Barrymore and Cameron Diaz (who also all appeared in the 2003 sequel Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle), Liu said on the show, "No, it's a little too much."

"I think you've got a lot of boob going on, you've got some booty going on. I think it’s too much," she added. "I don't think it's the right time."
