On Sunday night Edyn ‘Mac’ Mackney became the newest member to enter the crazy love bubble that is Love Island.
However despite stepping onto the scene oozing with confidence, 22-year-old Mac has not always been so self-assured growing up.
In 2015 Edyn opened up about her battle with eating disorders that saw her loose a drastic 22kgs from her already small frame in attempts to ‘fit’ the pressures of the modelling industry.
“I was in size six clothes and I still thought I was big,” she said during a Youtube video detailing her struggles.
“Modelling kept saying I needed to be tinier, I needed an inch off my hips so I started doing everything they told me to do.”
Edyn explained that it was this pressure from the industry that helped her “fall into the trap” that left her with an overwhelming guilt over what she ate and even stopped her from enjoying time out with friends.
“I was developing an eating disorder and body dysmorphia, I would look in the mirror and be like ‘Oh they’re so right, I have so much weight to lose,'” she said.
It was an unhealthy rut that Edyn described as a “really dark period in my life” however after seeking help from loved ones, the reality star has shared her story to fans, encouraging them to get help if they are going through a similar experience.
“I really urge you to tell your family, talk about it and make new habits to break the vicious cycle,” she encouraged.
The star is now looking happier and healthier than ever so let’s hope she has luck with love on this season of Love Island, where she is currently paired with fellow cast member Jaxon.
