Trevor Sova is breaking his silence about the rumors he had a girlfriend while filming Love Is Blind.
On Wednesday's season 6 reunion special, the reality star became flustered after co-hosts Nick Lachey and Vanessa Lachey confronted him about having "someone on the outside" while attempting to find his person on the reality dating experiment.
Nick and Vanessa began the conversation by pulling up the texts that Trevor allegedly sent to his girlfriend, which read in part, "I love you more than anything in this world. And I'm going to marry you," and "I hope you know how much I love you. And had to pretend that this wasn't real life to say anything I said."
Trevor, 31, struggled to find the words before finally mustering up an explanation. "I had a whole thing planned to say, I don't know," he said. "I was not dating her, 'dating her' technically, I never said, 'Will you be my girlfriend?' before the show started, but... obviously, we were close."
"She was the typical girl I'd go for in real life," he continued. "I told her before [that] I want to go on this to try and experiment with something else. There's no justifying that — that sounds f---ing horrible what I just said."
"I wanted to do this. I wanted to meet somebody that I wouldn't go for in real life. That's f---ed up," he said, adding that he "went in with the mindset of 'I will find someone, I wanna try it.'"
"I don't f---ing know, there isn't an answer for that," he admitted.
When Nick pointed out that Trevor said he "loved" his girlfriend before entering the experiment and that a man wouldn't say that to a woman he wasn't serious about, Trevor attempted to reason, "I did care about her... Her and I were so f---ing toxic."
"I'm toxic as well, I admit that. I need a lot of therapy," he added. "I know I f---ing need to change. I don't know what you want me to say."
Trevor's ex, Chelsea Blackwell, also got a moment to address him about the betrayal, saying, "I'm definitely not here to grill you by any means. It didn't work out for us. I had this intuition of why I didn't pick you and I couldn't explain it but now I can."
Chelsea, 31, asked Trevor what his game plan was if she had chosen him in the end and if his girlfriend would "be lingering around." In response, Trevor claimed his mindset was, "If I meet someone in here, I'm gonna stay with them."
He also argued that he became very invested in the experiment, and with Chelsea. "When I left, I was a f---ing emotional wreck... it was way worse than what was shown," he said.
As he started getting grilled, Trevor asked if he could leave, but the conversation continued on. At one point, Trevor was asked if his heartbreak was linked to the fact he had to leave the show, which he denied.
"I didn't care about leaving the show," he said, adding that he also didn't come on the series to further his career. "I did come here for good and bad reasons. I can't take back that I went on the show. I'm glad I went on the show because it taught me a lot about myself."
He also offered to provide Chelsea with "any clarity you need off-camera," which she said she appreciated.
Nick then brought up the fact that "participating in Love Is Blind is a once in a lifetime opportunity," noting that he and Vanessa "believe in it" as well as the select alumni who attended the reunion.
Setting the record straight, Nick added, "What we can't tolerate, and won't tolerate, is people coming here for the wrong reasons... motivated by fame, motivated by boosting their social media numbers."
Noting "it's not fair" and "just wrong," Nick continued, "We've gotta call you out for it... so Trevor, I know you asked to leave, you can leave now, man."
After being dismissed by Nick, Trevor walked off the stage and the reunion carried on without him.
Trevor's journey on season 6 of the Netflix hit series saw him form a strong connection with Chelsea inside the pods. Though Chelsea became Trevor's number one choice, she found herself torn between him and Jimmy Presnell. With both men ready to propose, Chelsea ultimately made the decision to continue the experiment with Jimmy and ended things with Trevor shortly after.
While speaking to PEOPLE in February, Trevor confessed that he believed that the odds would have turned in his favor if he had gotten the chance to propose to Chelsea first.
"I think the way it's set up, whoever is freshest in your mind from the day before is who you're kind of thinking of the most," he explained. "So she just had a night date with Jimmy for about five and a half hours the night before. And then Jimmy saw her right away in the morning, and that's when he proposed, and then it was me later in the day."
"So I think if you switched it around, it could have gone either way," he added. "I'm not saying for sure, but there's a possibility."
Trevor went on to note that he had "zero indication" that Chelsea planned to break things off during their final conversation in the pods. "I walk in there pretty confident. I don't know, I've never connected with a girl like I connected with her, so I was amazed that she felt she had a better connection with someone else," he admitted.
Chelsea, however, recently told PEOPLE that she didn't agree with his theory.
"I had really two really great men. Trevor just wasn't lining up, and my gut was telling me something. My intuition was just telling me, 'This isn't it, but Jimmy is,'" she recalled.
"The day before Proposal Day, you don't know who's going first — it could be Trevor, it could be Jimmy, it does not matter," she explained. "But I knew for a fact [who I would pick]. I went to bed that night, I prayed, I meditated, I did everything I needed to do to align my heart and my head and everything was guiding me to Jimmy."
Still, Chelsea admitted, "I didn't know if I was going to be going through a breakup first or getting engaged first, and I ended up getting engaged first — which either way would've been a total emotional rollercoaster — but it worked out exactly how it should have. So yeah, it wouldn't have changed my opinion at all or my answer."
