TV presenter horrifies viewers after admitting to showering just twice a week
The popular belief is that we should shower or bathe daily to stay clean.
So, when a television presenter revealed she showers just twice a week, people were shocked.
Loose Women panellist, Saira Khan, 49, explained how her unusual shower habits emerged through treating her dry skin.
“It's only by self care that I've managed to sort my skin out and that's by showering once or twice a week,” she said on the show this week.
Fellow panellist Stacey Solomon, 29, admitted she didn’t shower daily, either, claiming a lack of time.
“I've always thought as long as you wash your important bits it's OK,” she told the panel.
“Like you can have a quick wash, sometimes I don't have time for a 15 minute shower. Also I don't think it's that good for your hair and skin and stuff.”
Defending her co-panellist, she added: “How dirty do you have to be? You'd have to not shower for days to smell bad. You can't every morning, if you miss the shower once or twice.”
Many were shocked by Saira’s irregular showering routine, saying they could never do it.

I couldn't live with someone who didn't bath or shower everyday. #LooseWomen

Others, with an understanding of similar skin ailments, sympathised with her approach.
I suffer with psoriasis and fuck washing everyday. My skin would be red raw so I shower about 3 times a week. #LooseWomen

Why people don’t shower every day:
1. Can’t afford to
2. Physically unable
3. Depression
4. Financially can’t afford to
5. Doesn’t have time
6. Illness
7. Showering every day strips skin of oils.#LooseWomen— Han, Solo (@hscptcrash) May 22, 2019
While Saira’s once or twice–weekly showers may be too infrequent for some, they’re within the hygiene guidelines stated by the UK’s NHS - at least the twice-weekly showers are.
The health body says someone should wash their hands after going to the toilet; wash their genitals and bottom area every day; wash their face daily; bathe or shower at least twice a week; brush their teeth twice daily.
Last week, the internet was divided over the question of whether you need to wash your legs in the shower.
Some 20% of people confessed that, in fact, they skip their legs altogether during shower time.
