The British Library has shared London’s most borrowed books.

It has given us a rare insight into the types of books readers from around the capital are enjoying.

London has a long-standing relationship with literary greats. Not only does it have some of the most unique book shops in the world, it’s also home to some of the best stories of all time.

You might be surprised to discover some of the picks that made it onto the top 20.

Children’s literature takes up a large part of the list.

Diary Of A Wimpy Kid is featured eight times, which includes the first and third spot on the list.

Four of David Walliams’ children’s books feature on the list, too.

Interestingly, the second spot goes to the unlikely Theory Test For Car Drivers manual.

It makes sense, given that it’s not a book like which will make pride of place of the bookshelf after you’ve passed your test.

Margaret Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale came fourth on the list. The American dystopian drama was made into a series featuring Elisabeth Moss.

It has just been announced that the highly successful drama will be back for a fourth series.

JK Rowling’s Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone also made it onto the list, coming in at number 18.

The first book in the series of fantasy novels was the only one to have made it into the top 20.

Library fans will revel in the feminist undertones visible in the top 20. As well as Margaret Atwood’s novel, the top 20 features Zadie Smith’s Swing Time and Naomi Alderman’s The Power.
