LSU QB Joe Burrow made his Heisman case — with a little help from Clyde Edwards-Helaire.
Burrow finished 31-of-39 passing for 393 yards and three touchdowns while adding 64 rushing yards. Edwards-Helaire scored three rushing touchdowns and caught another.
But it was still a struggle for LSU (9-0, 5-0 SEC) to put away Alabama (8-1, 5-1).

Alabama QB Tua Tagovailoa hit Devonta Smith with an 85-yard TD pass with 1:21 to go to make it 46-41 moments after Edwards-Helaire’s fourth TD of the game with 1:37 left opened up a 12-point lead.
LSU recovered the onside kick with 1:20 to go, and Edwards-Helaire bulled his way to a first-down run. From there, the Tigers were able to run out the clock.
Tagovailoa hit Jerry Jeudy with a 5-yard TD pass — one play after Jeudy dropped a TD pass — to make it 39-34 with 5:32 to play. Alabama scored touchdowns on its last four possessions of the game.
Trailing 33-13 at halftime, Alabama struck first in the second half on a 15-yard TD pass from Tagovailoa to Najee Harris, who was the main man on the 95-yard, 10-play march that cut LSU’s lead to 33-20 with 4:51 left in the third quarter.

The Tide were in the red zone again as the third quarter ended. On fourth-and-1 from the LSU 11, Harris bulled his way to the 1 on the first play of the fourth quarter. Two plays later, Harris scored as Alabama cut the lead to 33-27 with 14:33 remaining.
Burrow and the Tigers came right back, however, with a 12-play, 75-yard march — capped by Edwards-Helaire’s third TD of the game — to open up a 12-point lead with 10:07 to play. The two-point conversion was no good.

No ordinary Joe in the first half
Burrow completed 18-of-20 passes for 252 yards and three TDs in the first half as the Tigers scored 17 points in the final 6:43 of the half to turn a slim 16-13 lead into a 33-13 advantage.
Burrow completed his first nine passes of the game — with two touchdowns — as the Tigers built a 16-7 lead early in the second quarter. Burrow completed 13 straight passes before his first incompletion.
Edwards-Helaire came up big late in the first half for the Tigers, scoring two TDs in the final 26 seconds. Edwards-Helaire leaped into the end zone for a 1-yard TD run on third-and-goal to give LSU a 26-13 lead.
Then after a Tagovailoa interception gave LSU the ball at the Alabama 13 with 11 seconds left in the half, Burrow threw a touchdown pass to Edwards-Helaire — his first career receiving TD.
While Alabama’s offense struggled early, an electric 77-yard punt return by Jaylen Waddle cut LSU’s lead to 10-7 with 1:14 left in the first quarter.

Tagovailoa drove the Tide right down the field on their first drive of the game but fumbled, and the Tigers recovered at their 8-yard line.

And LSU made Alabama pay as the Tigers drove 92 yards on six plays, capped by a 33-yard TD pass from Burrow to Ja'Marr Chase, for the early lead. The Tigers also added a first-quarter field goal for a 10-0 lead.

No. 17 Minnesota 31, No. 4 Penn State 26
Minnesota showed the nation it’s for real.
The Gophers held off a furious Penn State rally in the Big Ten battle of unbeatens.
After Penn State’s Journey Brown ran for his second TD of the game to cut Minnesota’s lead to 31-26 with 3:48 left, Minnesota was held to a three-and-out. Penn State got the ball back at its own 28-yard line with 2:40 left after KJ Hamler muffed the punt.
Penn State drove into the red zone again, but a pass interference penalty against Daniel George gave the Lions a second-and-24 with 1:20 left. On third down, QB Sean Clifford was intercepted for the third time in the game — this one in the end zone — with 1:01 left.
Seth Green’s 1-yard TD run with 14:11 remaining had given the Gophers a 12-point lead. Penn State drove right back down the field but was stopped on fourth-and-goal from the 5 with 10:38 left to play.
The Lions (8-1, 5-1 Big Ten) caught a break in the third quarter as Minnesota RB Shannon Brooks fumbled near midfield. Penn State took advantage and scored on a TD pass from Clifford to TE Nick Bowers — his first catch of the game. The two-point conversion try failed, though, to make the score 24-19 Minnesota.
Tanner Morgan threw three first-half TD passes — the third a spectacular one-handed grab by Tyler Johnson — as the Gophers (9-0, 6-0) grabbed a 24-13 halftime lead.
The Morgan-to-Johnson connection made it 21-10 with 7:18 remaining in the first half. Brock Walker then added his first career field goal to make it 24-10 before Penn State’s Jake Pinegar kicked a field goal on the last play of the half.
Antoine Winfield intercepted Clifford on the Lions’ first drive. The Gophers then drove 95 yards — capped by a 66-yard TD pass from Morgan to Rashod Bateman — for a 7-0 lead.
Winfield picked off Clifford again deep in Minnesota territory to keep the score 14-10 midway through the second quarter.

The Bears (9-0, 6-0 Big 12) ralled past the Horned Frogs (4-5, 2-4) to remain unbeaten heading into their showdown with No. 9 Oklahoma in Waco.

No. 1 Ohio State 73, Maryland 14
The Buckeyes (9-0, 7-0 Big Ten) were without star DE Chase Young against the Terrapins (3-7, 1-6) thanks to a totally absurd NCAA model, but they rolled. QB Justin Fields had three first-half TD passes and a TD run, and RB J.K. Dobbins added two first-half TD runs for Ohio State.
No. 6 Georgia 27, Missouri 0
Jake Fromm threw two TD passes for the Bulldogs, who solidified their standing in the East with a victory over the Tigers.
Rodrigo Blankenship added three first-half field goals — the last one on the final play of the half — to give Georgia a 16-0 lead.
Missouri looked like it was gonna score but QB Taylor Powell threw an interception to Richard LeCounte, who returned it 71 yards. That led to one of Blankenship’s field goals.

The Tigers have now outscored their opponents 218-41 in the past four games. They rolled to an other easy win Saturday behind QB Trevor Lawrence’s three passing TD and one rushing score.

The Cyclones were close to pulling off another upset against the Sooners, but Oklahoma was able to hold off and avoid falling.

The Gators (8-2, 5-2 SEC) are regrouped against the Commodores (2-7, 1-5). They were held scoreless in the first quarter but took control as QB Kyle Trask had a career day in the win.
No. 13 Wisconsin 24, No. 18 Iowa 22
Danny Davis III had a first-half TD run and catch for the Badgers (7-2, 4-2), who snapped a two-game skid. The Hawkeyes (6-3, 3-3) rallied, but a two-point conversion that could have tied the score with 3:12 to play in the game failed.
Jonathan Taylor rushed for a season-high 250 yards for Wisconsin.

The Irish still have hopes for a New Year’s Six bowl, and they win over Duke helps keep that illusion alive.

The Longhorns (6-3, 4-2 Big 12) won it with a 26-yard field goal from Cameron Dicker on the final play of the game. The Wildcats (6-3, 3-3) had rallied from a 24-14 deficit thanks to Joshua Youngblood’s 98-yard kickoff return and a field goal.

Deshawn McClease two third-quarter TD runs gave Virginia Tech (6-3, 2-2 ACC) the lead for good against the Demon Deacons (7-2, 3-2).
No. 20 Cincinnati 48, Connecticut 3
The Bearcats (8-1, 5-0 AAC) are the highest-ranked Group of Five team and had no trouble with the lowly Huskies (2-8, 0-6).
No. 25 SMU 59, East Carolina 51
The Mustangs (9-1, 5-1 AAC), who were coming off their first loss of the season, struggled to put away the Pirates (3-7, 0-6).
