Lisa Vanderpump Says the New ‘Vanderpump Rules’ Cast Is “Not Gonna Try and Compete” With the Original
We all know Vanderpump Rules raised a new bar for reality TV amid 2023's ill-fated Scandoval. Cast members like Ariana Madix and Tom Sandoval moved on to new ventures and became household names in pop culture as they continued to film. After they wrapped season 11, it was revealed that the future of the Bravo series would follow a whole new cast in season 12. Now, SUR owner (and the show's namesake) Lisa Vanderpump has officially entered the chat after fans' shocking response to the announcement.
"I think everything we do is going to have a different energy to it," Lisa told E! News at the grand opening of her new restaurant Pinky's by Vanderpump at Flamingo Las Vegas. "Not gonna try and compete with the old Vanderpump Rules. It's just gonna be totally different there. Still, we'll go back to the premise of the complications of running a restaurant and the staff in it. And that always has a story to tell."
She fondly reflected on working with the former cast as "a wonderful experience," but added, "It was time to do something different. Stories were kind of closing up a little bit. I think people, they weren't that shocked that we decided to do this now."
The reality TV journey isn't over for some OG SUR-vers—Tom Schwartz, Lala Kent, Scheana Shay and her husband, Brock Davies, are all set to appear on season 2 of The Valley. Other VPR alum on the spin-off include Kristen Doute and exes Jax Taylor and Brittany Cartwright.
As for VPR season 12, a press release released by Bravo revealed that it will center "close-knit SUR-vers who are as complicatedly involved with one another as their iconic predecessors...with plenty of drama, situationships, and frenemies."
"The last 12 years of filming have been an extraordinary run full of laughter, tears and everything in between," Lisa added in Bravo's release. "I can’t thank enough those who have shared their lives. How I love you all. In the restaurant business, one shift always gives way to another. Cheers to the next generation of Vanderpump Rules."
