Matthew Perry continues to be missed by his Friends co-stars, but Lisa Kudrow is finding solace in knowing that he was "happy" when he died last year. The late actor passed away on October 28, 2023, however Kudrow is sharing an "odd" confession that has brought her peace with the tragic way that he died.

During her December 9 appearance on Dax Shepard's "Armchair Expert" podcast, Kudrow explained why she's content with the way that Perry died (the late actor notably lost consciousness and drowned in a bathtub). "This will sound odd. I’m more comforted that he was happy the day he died,” the actress explained. “He got to die happy. And to me, that was a gift.”

Perry's struggles with addiction led to Kudrow having a “complicated” relationship with him, but she noted that there was also love and mutual respect between the two of them while he was alive. “I loved that Matthew I first met and the one at the end, because God love him, this is you, and I love you,” she added. “I understand, and so did he.”

Following Perry's death, Kudrow released a personal statement spotlighting the love for her late co-star on November 15, 2023, in which she thanked him for being present whenever they filmed, despite his private struggles. "Shot the pilot, Friends Like Us, got picked up then immediately, we were at the NBC Upfronts. Then…You suggested we play poker AND made it so much fun while we initially bonded. Thank you for that,” Kudrow wrote. “Thank you for making me laugh so hard at something you said, that my muscles ached, and tears poured down my face EVERY DAY.”

"Thank you for your open heart in a six way relationship that required compromise. And a lot of ‘talking.’ Thank you for showing up at work when you weren’t well and then, being completely brilliant. Thank you for the best 10 years a person gets to have. Thank you for trusting me. Thank you for all I learned about GRACE and LOVE through knowing you," she concluded her post. "Thank you for the time I got to have with you, Matthew."
