Lions gonna Lions: D'Andre Swift drops a sure game-winning TD as Bears come back to win (video)

D’Andre Swift won’t remember his NFL debut fondly.

The Detroit Lions rookie running back was almost the hero. The Lions blew a fourth-quarter lead against the Chicago Bears and trailed 27-23 in the final seconds when Matthew Stafford found Swift wide open. Stafford’s pass hit Swift right in the hands.

And Swift simply dropped it, with six seconds left. One more incompletion later, the Lions had a heartbreaking loss.

Swift didn’t haul in the pass as he turned to the end zone, momentarily losing focus on what would have been the biggest play of Week 1 across the NFL.

That’s a hard way to start your NFL career. Swift, a second-round pick, should be fine going forward. He’s got a lot of talent and had a rushing touchdown earlier in the game. But it will be a long week for him, and the rest of the Lions who should have closed out the win long before Stafford’s pass hit Swift’s hands.
